When you have dirty dishes, do you only wash the dirtiest ones, and put away the ones that just have a little bit of sticky stuff? No, because just a little bit of food poisoning is still really bad news.
In the hours before Jesus was arrested, He told His disciples that they would scatter. Peter said, “Not me. No way.” Jesus told Peter that he would deny his Lord three times before the rooster crowed. But Peter thought of himself as better than all others, that he was too righteous, too loyal, too strong. He was wrong, and so are we when we believe the same thing.
The point is we are all messed up in some way or other. None of us is a clean dish. We all need to be cleaned, and only Jesus can do it (and He wants to do it!). We must not have the attitude that Peter had in this story. None of us is better than anyone, because without Christ we’re all dirty, sticky and capable of poisoning others. Let us love the Lord with all our heart and the people around us—no matter how messed up they appear to be, because we are too. And Lord, help me to pay attention to my own preaching! ;)
Mark 14:29-30—But Peter said to Him, “Even though all may fall away, yet I will not.” And Jesus said to him, “Truly I say to you, that this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you yourself will deny Me three times.”
